Interim Cloud Architect for Allen & Overy at their Spitalfields London offices. Part of their IT Strategy and Architecture group and responsible for all aspects of Cloud Architecture, designed and implemented the Azure cloud environment for a Proof of Concept Document Management system. Technologies includes: Azure Resource Manager, Hybrid Azure/on-premises, Site to Site and vNet2vNet VPNs, Infrastructure as Code development, PowerShell, Virtual Checkpoint Firewall cluster, Virtual Cisco NetScaler layer 7 load balancers


Interim Cloud Architect for Amlin Insurance at their London offices via Deloitte. Responsible for all aspects of Cloud Architecture, designed and implemented the Azure cloud environment in which to securely transform several terabytes of data for a major data warehouse project. Technologies included: Microsoft Azure Classic and Resource Manager, Elastic computing, Point to Site and Site to Site VPN, HDD Import and Export Service, Continuous Integration with Team Foundation Server and PowerShell. Additional technologies designed included Multi-Factor Authentication & Network Security Groups


Interim Infrastructure Architect for Rank Group at their HQ in Maidenhead and Victoria, London, responsible for designing and documenting Infrastructure and processes, for projects integrating Microsoft Azure Cloud with local and national systems, and Salesforce with Mitel telephony and ADFSv2 Single Sign On. Initial contract on a Tech-Ops headcount nurtured an Agile DevOps environment, implemented development and test tools such as Subversion & Team City. Founder member of new Architect practice, responsible for troubleshooting a .NET-Linux multiple test environments project, with other complex and security projects involving virtualization and cloud technology.


Independent Consultant for Odgers Berndtson at their HQ near St Pauls in London, responsible for developing IT Strategy linked to Business and infrastructure stability during an office move, with particular emphasis on e-mail and messaging.


Interim Fixed Transformation Manager for Vodafone Group at their HQ in Newbury, responsible for Fixed Line Service Transformation, co-coordinating the migrations, processes and operational interfaces between the GSOC and each OPCO in Vodafone’s Fixed Centre of Excellence. A proof of concept program spanning 12 countries, likely forerunner of a product providing single point of contact for orders, invoicing, and support for international enterprise.


Interim Implementation Manager for Ernst & Young in Waterloo, London, responsible for a multi-phase project to design, install and roll out Unified Communications, using Microsoft Lync 2010 and Outlook 2010 and SharePoint 2010. The new infrastructure is to replace Lotus Notes and SameTime. This is an International roll out to 160,000 seats initially on to the existing Windows XP-Office 2007 desktop and then to the replacement Windows 7-Office 2010 desktop which is being developed in a parallel program.


Interim Server Strategy Manager for Siemens Information Systems Ltd (SIS) in Wood Lane, London. Their biggest customer is the BBC with SIS responsible for much of the BBC IT estate. Responsible for ongoing Microsoft Server and Collaboration projects: to update Active Directory; refresh the Domain Controller estate to Windows Server 2008r2 on new hardware; keep Exchange 2003 operating while re-architecting to Exchange 2010, and a multi-phase project to install Unified Communications, using OCS 2007r2 and Lync. The objective is to get vision, strategy, roadmaps and eventually portfolio management into the provision of Servers and Server applications for all of SIS's customers.


Interim Architect for UK Government foreign-aid dept DFID via UK Charity Windle Trust. An initial scoping mission to review business requirements and existing IT capabilities for the Sudan National Police (SNP) in Khartoum. Steve created a cross functional working team to define the SNP strategic IT architecture and undertake the business and systems analysis for the main administration ERP system, then wrote a confidential report with recommendations of how to proceed which he delivered to DFID in London.


Interim Architect and Project Manager for Contact Islington - London Borough of Islington (LBI) to refresh their Avaya based Call centre providing improved performance, additional functionality and integration with back office and PBX. Initial three month Architect contract was to troubleshoot a failing project, re-scope and propose a new plan agreed with all the key stakeholders. Contract was then extended as Project Manager to deliver against the agreed plan to-time and within-budget using LBI's PRINCE 2 project management methodology.
